A fine poegle from Brad on the Upper West Side- one of our finest poeglers….

A Shortage Of

The frightening thing about lunacy
Is the accompanying sense of certainty.
But this is not really a rhyming poem.
This is an artfully focused
Examination of a shortage of.

Even in the world’s most populous nations
The people talk of a shortage of.
Respiratory therapists, scientists, snow.
Largely unknown to the general public,
There is a shortage of acorns and organ grinders.

A dramatic increase in a shortage of
Occurred in the last half-century.
Of Hectors and Hernandezes,
Of folks called Fitzhugh or Schaben.
(Especially in the countryside)

Clearly, in the real world, there is a shortage of.
Some say of energy and engineers.
Others speak of troops and ammunition,
A decent wage, benefits, and HELP WANTED signs.
Not to mention trained authors of funny stories.

But as a counterpoint people in the profession
Report a steady influx in the number of tracheotomies
And a respectable number of plaid bow-ties.
