If I Had an Abortion

He said that if I had an abortion we had a future
If we had a baby, then there was no future
I asked him whether he would perform the abortion on me,
he said, “No, thanks,” in an absent way.

I think it made him uncomfortable
to hear the truth about a very real and sick situation
But I’d like to think that if a friend of mine had an abortion
I’d have acted rationally and supportive

I’d like to think that if I had sex with a man
It meant that he would love me

It’s been two years since the abortion
And boy was I wrong
