Inconsistency

He gave up.
“I pretty much lost it for the whole team,” he said.
I’m just an observer here, but it seems to me
that he didn’t give up soon enough!

His heart wasn’t in it.
That perfectly expresses exactly what went wrong.

If his heart was in it, he would have told us.
“Look, I can’t do it.”

Inconsistency.

If he’d just given up instead of trying so damn hard.
The clock was tick-tick-ticking down
his first chance to speak in his own defense.

He caught his breath, interjected his two cents,
all while the clock was tick-tick-ticking down.

“Everything happens for a reason though,” he said.He didn’t give up soon enough.
