Like Riding a Bike

Think back to what you know,
To what cannot be forgotten,
The day the training wheels came off
And you fell, got back on, fell, got back on,
Pedal.

It all bears scrutiny,
The laws of physics,
Angular momentum,
A resistance to change,
Balance.

A simple child’s pleasure,
One more secret unfurled,
One less thing to elude you,
Check it off the list and
Move on.

Driving to who cares where,
I think of us years past,
And count you among
The things I am unable to
Unlearn.
